This leading South African publisher has an opening in the Publishing division for a Publishing Intern.

 

The successful candidate will work with the Publishing team in Cape Town. They will shadow and work alongside publishing professionals and participate in team meetings and publishing projects.

 

Anticipated start date : mid-February 2025.

 

 

Job Requirements:

 

  • Tertiary qualification in publishing, languages, translation or journalism with a strong interest in writing and editing.
  • Excellent communication skills in English and Afrikaans, both written & verbal
  • Excellent writing, copy-editing, admin and organisational skills.
  • Proactive with a strong sense of accountability and taking ownership, as well as a can-do attitude and a desire to learn and improve.
  • Able to work accurately under deadline pressure.
  • Adept in problem solving and multitasking.
  • A genuine interest in book publishing and should be an avid reader.
  • A knowledge of MS Office is essential.

 

Duties would include:

 

  • Assist publishers with the project management of books
  • Assist with the day-to-day admin of running the publishing division, including but not limited to formatting manuscripts, taking notes in submissions meetings and assisting with the compiling of the catalogue
  • Assist with the checking of audio and e-books after receiving the relevant training
  • Review new submissions and write reader’s reports on request

Eligibility

  • Any South African citizen, who has completed a Tertiary qualification in journalism, publishing, translation or languages (Afrikaans major preferred) with a strong interest in writing and editing
  • Available to work normal office hours in Cape Town between February 2025 and January 2026 (no remote work)
