Main Purpose of the Role:

The Video Editor is responsible for creating compelling video content for Daily Sun's digital platforms, including website, social media channels, and multimedia storytelling initiatives. This role involves editing raw footage into polished, engaging videos that align with Daily Sun's editorial standards and brand identity, while supporting the publication's transition to multimedia journalism and digital-first content delivery.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Edit raw video footage from multimedia journalists and correspondents into compelling news stories and feature content
  • Create short-form videos for social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, Twitter) optimised for each platform's requirements
  • Develop video graphics, lower thirds, titles, and visual elements that maintain Daily Sun's brand consistency
  • Enhance audio quality through sound editing, noise reduction, and audio mixing
  • Color correct and grade footage to ensure professional visual standards
  • Collaborate with multimedia journalists and editors to develop visual storytelling approaches for news content
  • Create promotional videos for Daily Sun's major stories and investigative pieces
  • Edit live event coverage, press conferences, and breaking news footage for immediate digital publication
  • Develop video content for special projects, documentaries, and feature stories
  • Create motion graphics and animated elements to enhance storytelling impact
  • Maintain and operate video editing equipment, software, and digital storage systems
  • Ensure all video output meets technical specifications for web, mobile, and social media distribution
  • Archive and organize video assets using digital asset management systems
  • Conduct quality control checks on all edited content before publication
  • Troubleshoot technical issues and coordinate with IT support as needed
  • Work closely with multimedia journalists, photographers, and content managers
  • Coordinate with social media team to optimise video content for platform-specific requirements
  • Support live streaming and real-time content creation during major news events
  • Contribute to editorial meetings with video content ideas and multimedia approach suggestions
  • Meet tight deadlines for breaking news and daily content production schedules

 

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Strong technical knowledge of video production workflows, from capture to final output
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Premiere Pro, After Effects, Photoshop, Audition)
  • Understanding of color grading, audio editing, and post-production techniques
  • Knowledge of social media video requirements and optimisation strategies
  • Basic understanding of graphic design principles and typography
  • Familiarity with camera operation and basic lighting principles
  • Strong visual storytelling abilities and creative problem-solving skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and commitment to quality standards
  • Ability to work efficiently under pressure and adapt to changing priorities
  • Strong organisational skills and systematic approach to file management
  • Collaborative mindset with willingness to learn and share knowledge

 

Minimum Requirements:

  • Certificate or diploma in Video Production, Media Studies, Film/TV Production, or related field. Alternative: Relevant experience in video editing and multimedia production
  • Proficiency in professional video editing software (Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, DaVinci Resolve)
  • Understanding of video compression, file formats, and web optimisation techniques
  • Minimum 2-3 years’ experience in video editing, preferably in news, media, or digital content environment
  • Experience editing content for multiple platforms (web, mobile, social media)
  • Demonstrated ability to work under tight deadlines and handle multiple projects simultaneously
  • Experience with motion graphics and basic animation preferred
  • Experience with live streaming and real-time video production
  • Knowledge of journalism ethics and media law
  • Additional language skills relevant to Daily Sun's audience
  • Experience with drone footage, 360-degree video, or emerging video technologies
