Main Purpose of the job: 

The editor of Fin24 leads and manages a dynamic team of digital business journalists who lead the way in covering South Africa's top companies, markets and the economy.

Job Outputs: 

* Setting the news agenda for Fin24 by identifying the top business and financial stories of the day and ensuring they are thoroughly covered by the publication.

* Managing a team of business journalists and content producers to cover South Africa's top companies, markets, the political economy and economic indicators in a thorough and trend-setting way.

* Ensuring that Fin24 has a fast stream of breaking news, while building a steady flow of in-depth reporting, analysis, opinion and investigative journalism.

* Assist with the production process and ensuring that factual and language errors are limited to the absolute minimum.

* Managing a small freelance budget.

* Liaising with other editors in 24.com to ensure Fin24's content is used prominently and drives audience to our platforms.

* Keeps a close eye on analytics to influence decisions about content prioritisation and workflows.

Skills and Competencies: 

* The successful candidate is a seasoned business journalist with a passion for financial news and storytelling on digital platforms.

* He/she has a thorough understanding of how the economy functions and can identify financial stories and investigations.

* The editor is a good manager of people and can motivate and mentor a team of financial journalists, with a proven track record.

* The successful candidate has the ability to identify the top financial stories of the day that will set the agenda for Fin24.

* The editor must have great communication and writing skills to communicate internally and write thought-provoking columns for Fin24.

* The editor has an appreciation of fast news and the ability to manage a piece of investigative journalism over a longer period.

Qualifications and experience: 

* At least 10 years' experience as a financial journalist.

* A relevant tertiary qualification.

* Digital experience in a business news environment is recommended.
