Job Description

City Press  has a vacancy for a Journalist in the arts supplement #Trending

 to deliver excellent lifestyle and entertainment supplements and related content. This is a temp position to accomodate for maternity leave.

 

 

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS

 

 

  • Editing the arts and lifestyle section in consultation with a team, generating new ideas, approving pages
    • Sub-editing as a core function, getting stories edited into shape for print, adding headlines and captions
    • Representing #Trending at social, arts and lifestyle functions when required, including in the media when asked to do interviews, and on social media
    • Offering ideas and content to the #Trending diary
  • Contributing light news and art stories to the City Press news diary
    • To be able to write easily in all areas across all subjects in #Trending and all formats, from feature to review
    • Deliver punctual, clean copy within the style of #Trending
  • Uploading #Trending’s print content on the City Press website, ensuring it is web friendly

 

 


 

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • A suitable tertiary qualification and relevant journalistic experience;
  • Ability to work as leader of a team of journalists;
  • Conversant with lifestyle, arts and entertainment content;
  • Knowledge of digital platforms and social media;
  • Excellent linguistic skills;
  • A network of contacts;

 

 

SKILLS

  • Proper grasp and knowledge of the production process at a newspaper;
  • Excellent management, planning and organising skills;
  • Great sense for detail and accuracy;
  • Strategic thinking ability;
  • Exceptional writing and editing skills;
  • Creative and innovative ideas for lifestyle and entertainment content for print media and the digital sphere.
