Finance Manager – Accounts Receivable
Cape Town


Media24, part of the Naspers Group, touches the lives of millions of consumers every day through our online and print media, book publishing, online services and ecommerce platforms. We are looking for a new Finance Manager – Accounts Receivable (AR) to oversee the Accounts Receivable department within Finance Shared Services. The Finance Manager – Accounts Receivable will report to the Head of Finance Shared Services and will be based at their head offices in Cape Town.


Main Purpose of the Role

To provide the business with financial analysis and information relating to the AR function and to manage an AR department according to sound financial systems, practices and processes that are

compliant with relevant legislation, meet principles of international best practices and

principles that will allow the business unit, division and company to achieve its strategic

financial objectives.



  • Relevant qualification in Finance, preferably a Chartered Accountant
  • 5 years’ experience within a similar role
  • 5 years’ management experience
  • Experience formulating and overseeing policies and procedures
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation
  • Knowledge Proficiency in relevant software packages and applications


Key Responsibilities

  • Design, implement and monitor policies, procedures and processes for the team and the division, in compliance with divisional and group financial strategy;
  • Manage and ensure IFRS compliance and legal compliance (relevant acts including but not limited to Companies Act, Income Tax Act, Securities Exchange Act, Consumer Protection Act, Electronic Communication Act);
  • Establish and review the division’s financial integrity, performance and its AR reporting by managing mechanisms for budgeting, financial controls, accounting, collections and management of bad debts;
  • Review of AR reconciliations;
  • Liaise with key clients;
  • Review the preparation and revision of departmental budgets against the business plans;
  • Prepare the cashflow budgets and forecasts relating to AR;
  • Report monthly on variances between actuals, budgets and forecasts;
  • Ensure that accurate financial analysis, reports and schedules are provided as required, including monthly management reports;
  • Manage budget and resources so that the team is placed to deliver on its strategies;
  • Continuously look at ways to reduce costs and improve efficiencies.
  • Through broad and thorough understanding of the business and financial implications, assist the CFO with providing advice to the Divisional or Company CEO and the senior management team on the division’s or company’s critical business issues e.g. preparation of business plans, collection risks and client-related risks;
  • Research, prepare and present information to CFO/Divisional CEO’s as requested e.g. financial models, scenarios etc based on requests from CEO;
  • Liaise with internal and external auditors as required;
  • Manage team members in such a way that they are motivated, energised and empowered;
  • Coach and share knowledge and mentor more junior employees; and
  • Assist the CFO with strategic financial management and projects.
