Job Description

Media24 Books is seeking an Accounting and Audit Officer to join the central finance team in Cape Town. The main purpose of this role is to take responsibility for ensuring internal financial controls at head office and to ensure the integrity of the financial accounting function within Media24 Books in accordance with sound accounting practices, company policy and legislative requirements. This role reports into the Group Finance Manager.



Minimum Requirements

•B Com degree or national diploma in internal auditing, taxation, finance or cost and management accounting
•At least 1-3 years relevant work experience in financial analysis/reporting/budgeting

Knowledge of relevant legislation and policies as well as financial controls and reporting standards

Practical auditing experience or articles will be an advantage

Some knowledge and understanding of the treasury function will be an advantage

Duties and Responsibilities


  • Implement and maintain financial accounting/administration and internal control processes and procedures
  • Drive the self-audit process by liaising with financial managers, performing internal audit checks on critical processes and control frameworks and providing recommendations and feedback to finance managers on adequacy of financial controls
  • Remain up to date with audit requirement and legislative standards and controls
  • Ensure that there are no high-risk findings on audits and that audit overruns are avoided
  • Ensure compliance with company policy, legislation and IFRS
  • Identify financial accounting risks and contribute towards developing and implementing mitigating strategies
  • Liaise with internal and external auditors as and when needed and provide information timeously and accurately
  • Perform a treasury function by ensuring that all cash requests and investment confirmations are timeously submitted as well as cash transfers and that all monthly cash flow forecasts are completed timeously
  • Manage the ratio analysis and mismatch processes
  • Responsible for financial reporting, variance reporting, budgets and forecasts and packs
  • Ensure deadlines in respect of month end, interim, budgeting and forecasting cycles as well as yearend are met
